Devotion: (Matthew 1:20,21) “…an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
What’s in a name? A name is vitally important. A name can either mean a lot, or it can mean nothing.
In the case of Jesus, the name means everything! Why so? Because the name Jesus literally means, “the one who saves.” That is what Jesus means – it means, “Savior.”
It is completely okay for us to call upon God as “Lord,” “Almighty God,” “Christ,” etc. But ultimately our favorite name for “Jesus” is…”Jesus”! Why so? Because that name reminds us that He is our Savior, the one who has come to save us from our sins.
I do not know what tomorrow will bring. I don’t even know what today will bring. But the one thing we can all know for sure is that we have God’s saving love! We hear it in the name “JESUS!”
Thankful for Jesus, just like you,
