(2 Samuel 12:13) “Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” Nathan replied, “The Lord has taken away your sin.”
Is it really that simple? David had recently lied, led someone into drunkenness, committed adultery, and murdered one of his best soldiers in order to take this man’s wife as his own. When the prophet Nathan confronted David about these sins – David confessed his sin to the Lord.
And what does Nathan say to David? He says, “The Lord has taken away your sin!” Unbelievable! Just like that David was forgiven for his horrendous sins. There were no strings attached, there were no requirements for David to fulfill, there were no good deeds that needed to be done. David was forgiven free of charge.
How could David be forgiven so easily? Was it because David was a good person? Was it because David was King? Was it because David was special? No! It was because Jesus was going to do all the hard work for David – and He does the same for you. When Jesus died on the cross He paid for all of David’s sins, for the world’s sins and for your sins. When Jesus suffered hell on the cross He suffered the punishment for David’s sins and your sins on your behalf. Our God forgives because of Jesus!
And so let your conscience burden you no more. It is that simple. Confess your sins to the Lord and know that “the Lord has taken away your sin” because of what Jesus has done for you on the cross!
Thankful that my sins are forgiven in Jesus, just like you,
