This week’s “Byte” was written by Pastor Jon Bergemann who is pastor at our sister WELS congregation, Trinity Lutheran, in Falls Church, VA.  I thought it was well done and wanted to share it with you all! Enjoy!

Devotion:

Do you own any expensive books?

If you would like your own copy of The Codex Leicester, a collection of largely scientific writings by Leonardo da Vinci penned in his own hand, it will cost you.  The last time this book was sold in 1994, Bill Gates bought it for $30,802,500.  A rare and valuable book indeed!  Why?  Because of the content, and because of its very famous author.

You may never be able to afford a manuscript from the hand of Leonardo da Vinci.  But you do possess a far greater treasure from a far superior author.  Listen to this:  “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:2)

Did you catch who the “author” of your faith is?  Jesus!  You didn’t decide to come to faith.  You didn’t make up or manufacture your faith.  You didn’t buy or earn your faith.  Jesus is the author of your faith.  He sent the Holy Spirit to produce and publish faith in your heart through the Word!   Your faith is a unique creation by the author of the universe!

And more good news:  He is also the “perfecter” of your faith.  He will revise it and refresh it, like a master author working on a prized manuscript, until you reach heaven.  He does this as you read His love story for you – the Bible.

Your faith is a rare, prized, and precious manuscript of the Maker of heaven and earth.   Care for it and guard it with the Word!  It is the most important item you will ever own!

Happy to have faith created by the Creator, just like you,

Pastor Schumann
