(Philippians 3:20) “But our citizenship is in heaven.  And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ…”

Throughout my life I have been a citizen of Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and now Kansas.  All of these states are wonderful places to live and I have enjoyed them all.  But all of them have their down sides as well.  Wisconsin gets too much snow, Illinois can get very hot, Minnesota has Viking fans J and Kansas has tornados.  Yet, all of these places I was happy to call home.

But in the book of Philippians Saint Paul tells you and me that we are not citizens of the state or country we live in but our citizenship is in heaven.  How awesome is that?  If our citizenship is in heaven that means our home is in heaven!  And what do we know about heaven?  We know that it is perfect!  Heaven is not too hot, it doesn’t get too much snow, it does not have obnoxious sports fans, it does not have natural disasters and most importantly it does not have sin!  The pain and sadness that comes with living here on this earth is nowhere to be found in heaven but there is only joy and happiness!

And so while we are “visiting” here on this earth we eagerly await the coming of our Savior Jesus – we long to be with Him!  We await His coming like a child awaits the coming of his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins at the holidays – with great excitement.  Because it is on that Great Day that we will go home to be with our Savior and enjoy all of the blessings of being citizens of His heaven!

A future citizen of heaven eagerly awaiting the coming of our Savior, just like you,

Pastor Schumann
