(Titus 3:4,5 NIV) “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,…”
How can I know that I’m saved? Ultimately, that’s THE question. And of course, if we’re honest with ourselves, we know all the reasons we should go to hell: we’ve been selfish, angry, bitter, resentful, lustful, fearful, rude, arrogant, etc. Knowing all that makes the question, “How can I know that I’m saved?” all the more imperative to answer!
How can you know? Because God said that He saved you! God can say it, because God did what was necessary to save you—Jesus appeared on this earth, He lived in your place, He died in your place, He rose from the dead.
And if all that weren’t enough, God gave it to you personally, in your baptism. In your baptism God gave you rebirth. In your baptism, God made you to be new in His eyes. So while it’s wonderfully true that God saved the world through Jesus, it’s also wonderfully true that God saved you, personally, individually. In your baptism, God gave it to you.
Thankful that I’m a baptized child of God, just like you,
