(2 Corinthians 12:7-10 NIV) “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.  For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

So often when times are tough people have the tendency to hang their head, to become grumpy or angry, to let depression set in, or maybe they just sit down and cry.  When times are tough, when things don’t go a person’s way it can put them in a foul mood.

But Paul tells us that when times are tough to… thank God!  Paul tells us when things are going totally wrong to boast in our God!  Paul tells us to delight in our hardships!  That sounds crazy!

It sounds crazy because human nature’s natural tendency is to blame someone when things go wrong and if that doesn’t work to ultimately blame God.  But the truth is when things go wrong we have no one to blame but ourselves because of our sinfulness.

Now enter God.  In our hardships God does not abandon us but instead He comes to our rescue and tells us we can delight in our difficulties, our hardships, our misfortunes, our weaknesses!  Why…Because God sacrificed His only Son for us.  On account of Jesus God promises, “that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.” (Romans 8:28)  God will use every though situation, every weakness in our life, every problem for our good!  How awesome is that!  We never loose even when things seem to be bad.

And so from now on when you have a problem, a trouble or a weakness in your life – rejoice in it, delight in it and even boast about it because your loving God is using it for your good!

Boasting because of the love of Jesus when I face hard times, just like you,

Pastor Aaron Schumann
