(1John 10:19,20 NIV) “This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence 20 whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.”
“Just follow your heart.” We’ve heard that before, right? And often it’s talked about in regards to religion.
At first glance, it sounds good. After all, God has given us a conscience and the conscience can be wonderfully helpful.
Our hearts – our thoughts, our minds, yes, even our consciences—have been invaded by sin. So the reality is, often our hearts will lie to us. Often our hearts will lead us in the wrong direction, in a direction away from God and His Word.
Thankfully, God is greater than our hearts! Thankfully, God and His Word never lies!
And so that’s where we go—to God and His Word. We can count on that to always tell us the truth.
And today, when your heart condemns you, when your heart causes you to wonder if God really loves you, go back to the source. Listen to what God actually says—that you’re forgiven, that He does love you, that He is ruling all things for your good—and set your heart at rest.
Thankful that I can count on God, just like you,
