(Mark 16:6 NIV) “Don’t be alarmed,” he (the angel) said.  “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified.  He has risen!  He is not here.”

There are a lot of comforting and uplifting passages in the Bible.  I am sure all of you have your favorite passage that hits home with you personally and that you love to read every day.  God’s word is filled with words of comfort, peace, joy, reassurance, and hope.  But some of the sweetest words in the Bible are those the angel spoke to the women at the empty tomb when he said, “He (Jesus) is risen!  He is not here!”

These words of the angel are powerful words!  With these words the angel at the tomb was proclaiming victory in the war against the devil which had been waged since Adam and Eve fell into sin.  With these words the angel was telling you that the sacrifice which Jesus made on that cross on your behalf was accepted by God the Father and all of your sins have been paid for.  With these words the angel was proclaiming that you never have to be afraid again!  Why?  Because Jesus has risen!  And since Jesus has risen you know that you too will one day rise from the grave to be with him for an eternity in heaven!

These words of the angel at the tomb may be short and simple but they sure are sweet!  These words bring comfort to wounded heart, they bring joy to the saddened eye, and they bring peace to the burdened conscience because they tell us that Jesus has won the victory over sin, death, and the devil for you and me!

“He is not here!  He has risen!”

Thankful Jesus rose for me just like he rose for you!
