(Matthew 29:29-31)  Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.  But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”  Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.  “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Wow!  Every time I read this account I realize how much we are just like Peter!  When things are going well in our lives, when everything is going as we planned, when he have no hiccups or hard times in our lives our faith is as strong as can be.  But as soon as the first “wave” of trouble comes rolling in at us our faith has a tendency to waver, just like it did for Peter.  When things don’t go as planned, when we get sick, when we lose our job, when there is a death in the family or when things just get stressful we so quickly forget about our God and look to ourselves to get ourselves out of our troubles.  And as we look to ourselves for strength we so often times find ourselves sinking further and further down into those troubles until we finally have no other choice but to cry out, “Lord save me!”

And how awesome is our Savior that he never says, “Well you didn’t trust in me so I am just going to let you drown in your troubles.”  But just like he did for Peter he does for you and me and he IMMEDIATELY comes to our rescue.   He comes to our rescue and helps us with whatever trouble we have through His Word.  It is in His Word where we find our strength, comfort,  and our hope and our joy in Jesus.  It is in His Word where we see Jesus tell us He will never give us more than we can bear.  It is in His Word where we see that we are His beloved sons and daughters!

And so no matter what trouble you are facing this week, go to Jesus in prayer.  Cry out to him, “Lord save me!”  Go to His Word and see how He has rescued you through His blood on the cross and take comfort that He will always be there helping you through whatever trouble you may be facing in your life.  And it is with that knowledge that you and I can “take courage and never be afraid” because Jesus is with us every step of the way!

Rescued through Jesus blood, just like you!
