(Romans 12:4-6) “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.”
In a survey ranking the top five most important body parts Mott Hall High School in New York City had the following as their most important: heart, brain, lungs, reproductive organs and spinal cord. Maybe you agree with the students from Mott High maybe you don’t. But no matter what your opinion is we can all say these body parts are extremely important for the human body to be able to function.
Now I wonder how far down on the list of most important body parts the “pinky” toe would be. My guess would be that it is quite a ways down the list after all the organs, limbs, the systems of the body, intestines, eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and so on. But what happens if a person would lose their pinky toe? Would the pinky toe go unnoticed? By no means! The pinky toe helps with walking, running and your everyday balance. The pinky toe is important and without it the human body doesn’t function correctly.
And the same is true for you and me as a part of the body of Christ! God tells us that he has given all of us unique gifts for us to use in his kingdom – and all of these gifts are important! If we would lose one of these gifts the body of Christ would not function properly. NO person is useless in Christ’s body but we all have an important role in furthering his kingdom.
And so today remember that you are important! You have a vital role in Christ’s body! He has made you unique and given you your own special set of gifts. And use those gifts which God has given you to tell others about what Jesus has done for them so they may too one day be a part of the body of Christ!
An important part of Christ’s body, just like you are!
